Specialist seating is super important for the children we work with. It’s key for them to start sitting early in their rehabilitation journey as it can help with:

  • Respiratory, digestive & cardiac functions

  • Maintaining skeletal alignment / posture

  • Increasing comfort & relaxation

  • Normalising tone or help to decrease the influence of abnormal tone

  • Promoting function, including visual skills, communication, eating/drinking, participating in activities (e.g. play, school, outside trips) & participating in self-care activities

The specialist wheelchairs you funded have tilt in space & recline functions, which mean we can gradually build up children’s sitting tolerance. The larger chair also has a drip stand and basket, which are really helpful. The headrest, laterals, footplates, chest harness all help to provide a really stable base & postural support for the children so they can have the best chance of participating in day to day activities and increasing their independence.

Thank you all so much for your support.

Rebecca Muir
